This is a place you do not want to miss while in Hood River. It's called modern tacos and it's anything but modern. They have vegan, gluten free and dairy free options for those with dietary restrictions. Kid friendly and staff is great. Food was delicious and we loved the dessert, we got to make s'mores at our table! It was a fun experience and is intended for sharing! We loved everything that we ate. The place next door is the same owner and we were able to order off of 2 menus which was nice for options. Sushi is amazing here! It does get busy here and they had a sing in sheet for a waitlist. I recommend coming early, they were open until 830 pm a Saturday night.

Modern Taco is right next door to Wicked Sushi. As a sister restaurant it shares the kitchen. The ambiance is upbeat with a full bar, high tables in the bar area and comfortable booths in the main dining area. I dropped in for a takeout meal. I ordered the pork belly bao and seared ahi taco. I needed a quick refuel after time on the water kiting. The taco was good, but messy. The wasabi mayo is delicious, but leaked out one end of the taco. The bao was excellent, tender pork belly with a soft bun and fresh herbs- so good! Service was friendly and efficient.

A fusion of Mexican and Asian, the tacos and Bao are not traditional but they are definitely tasty! With fillings like pineapple shrimp or chicken curry or edamame falafel, some may be out of their comfort zone. No worries, they have asada, al pastor, shrimp and grilled fish for the traditionalists! Even tofu for vegans. Toppings are fresh and colorful. I tend to get two tacos (love the crispy pork belly and al pastor) and two bao and make two meals out of it. They have sides, too, like roasted street corn (really good) and a dyi guacamole if you are eating there. I love the queso as a starter to share. Hours seem to be random and definitely less hours in colder months (closed Tuesday and Wednesday in off season.) It is usually crowded when I'm there so people are definitely digging this modern take on tacos and bao.

I was a little hesitant about the food here because I've had a lot of tacos/Mexican food that is not so Mexican. Although, Modern Taco really lived up to its name name. It literally is modern tacos. It's definitely not authentic Mexican food but it's absolutely delicious for being modern hipster Mexican. I would 1000% recommend the blackberry jam margarita. It's absolutely amazing. The nachos were different with white queso but still so good. The cheese quesadilla was plain so I would probably skip that next time or add a meat choice. Finally, the tacos were very different from typical Mexican tacos but they were still so good! I was pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent as well. The servers and staff were were really kind and helpful with recommendations around hood river. Glad I tried this place!

I love modern taco! I discovered it a little less than a year ago when I was doing a usual trip to hood river (I live in Portland) it's off the main food strip which meant I hadn't really seen it before. It is DELICIOUS. I've been about 5 times now, including last week when my mother and I decided to drive the hour to hood river *specifically* to eat modern taco. Not only is the food great but we always have the same server and he is kind and efficient but not overly chatty 10/10! Our favorite tacos are the crispy pork belly, beef kimchi, and ahi tuna. It's hard, cause the first one you eat is going to be so good you're going to want to get it EVERY TIME, but the others will all be just as great so I encourage you to try them all! I don't know if I'll ever eat anywhere else in hood river again, there's no place like modern taco! TRY IT! The queso? Delicious! The tacos? Amazing! The bacon/kimchi rice? Awesome!

Pretty cozy spot with lots of room. My bowl was pretty good flavor-wise and had a nice mix of textures. Service was overall decent. My only complaint is the rice was a little dry.

This place was a pleasant surprise during our vacation to Hood River. When I saw pork belly bao on the menu hanging on the window, I told hubby this was a place to try. We shared an order of pork belly bao (order comes with 2). Absolutely delicious. He got one chicken curry and one al pastor tacos. He really enjoyed. I got the modern bowl with pork belly. Think Chipotle bowl but tons better. My bowl with cilantro rice and black beans, avocado and pepitas for crunch, it was absolutely fabulous. Our server was nice, helpful and attentive. Our meal with a Mexican coke came out to $53 (we gave over 20 percent gratuity because server was cool). Support local small businesses. You will not regret and I am definitely sharing my experience with friends and family in Seattle.

Great little taco joint in hood river. Spacious dining area and everything looks brand new. A bit on the pricey side but you get a good amount of food and tastes great. DIY guacamole is just that. They give you a bowl of avocado, plus a bunch of goodies to mix in. Tasted great w their chips Bao buns w pork belly were good. And you get a 5 inch slab of pork belly. Again ton of food. 2 tacos for twelve bucks. They are stacked to the rim. Honey spicy shrimp was excellent as well as the pork belly and chicken thigh Will come again

The hours aren't the most user friendly, so we ordered togo which diminished the experience. Moreover, the DIY Guacamole is only worth it when dining-in. We opted for two different bao: Pork Belly and crispy tofu. Yup, real good...but pricy at $5.50 per. The interesting shaped fries were the type I least like. The guy tending the register was very nice. They are located on a side street and might be easy to miss. I look forward to returning and running the menu of food and cocktails.
